Welcome to Llangefni

ProfileMapLlangefni, the county town of Anglesey in North Wales, is located approximately 252 miles north-west of London and 15 miles east of Holyhead.

The town has a population of around 4,600. Administratively it is the headquarters of the Isle of Anglesey County Council which covers an area of approximately 714 sq kms.

It is a peaceful market town lying at the heart of Anglesey which makes it an ideal centre from which to explore the island. There are good leisure facilities and numerous attractions in the vicinity, including Llyn Cefni a reservoir to the north-west of the town which is popular with anglers and birdwatchers.

Llangefni is the principal commercial and farming town on the island. Charles Tunnicliffe, painter of birds and wildlife, lived here for much of his working life until his death in 1979, and bequeathed his personal collection to the town.

Economically, tourism is one of the most important industries with the Anglesey Tourism Survey of 1997/98 confirming that the industry generates some 1.8 million visits every year to the Island with a visitor spend of around £180 million pounds per annum. The tourism sector remains a focus of investment activity.
